Meaning and Origin

The Marathi poet Keshavasuta was born in Malgund, a little town located one kilometer from Ganpatipule. He was born in 1866. He is recognized as the poet who brought Marathi poetry into the modern era. Malgund has a memorial honoring his contributions as well as a museum with materials on the majority of contemporary Marathi poets.

Road

Nivali is a small village on the Mumbai Goa Road (NH 17) that is 32 kilometers away from Ganapatipule. Ganapatipule is reached by turning right from Nivali. Nivali and Ratnagiri are roughly 20 miles apart. There are roughly 4 miles separating Nivali and Hatkhamba. It is necessary to turn right out of Hatkhamba towards Ratnagiri, which is 16 km away. About 25 kilometers separate Sangameshwar from Nivali and 45 km from Chiplun. One can directly approach Ratnagiri from Ganapatipule, bypassing Hatkhamba and Nivali. Taking the MSRTC City Bus from Ratnagiri Railway Station to MSRTC Bus Station (Ratnagiri) and then switching buses there to a bus to Ganapatipule via Arevare is a quicker way to get to Ganapatipule. Mumbai, Pimpri-Chinchawad, Pune, Swarget (Pune), Miraj, Chiplun, Deorukh Sawantwadi (seasonal only), and Panjim (seasonal only) are the destinations of MSRTC buses.

Train

Ganapatipule lacks a railway station. The closest train stations are located in Bhoke and Ratnagiri. As a city, Ratnagiri is the destination for all express and passenger trains. There are only passenger trains from Dadar that stop in Bhoke, a small settlement.
